What Is A Christian?

Are you a Christian? If I were to ask you this question, what would your answer be?
For most of us, we would say that Jesus is our Lord and savior. Which is true. This is a surface level definition. As a Christian, you realize that you are a sinner and am in need of savior. You realize that, you cannot save yourself. (Believe me I tried) I tried to stop acting a certain way and speaking a certain way. I tried to stop sinning and when it came down to it, I was like, I am my own God. I am in charge of myself and I am an adult. Who are you (anyone but myself) to tell me what to do.
Then the Lord sends someone into your life that opens the door to the realization that God exist.
Now your a Christian and the question is what is a Christian?
There is a lot to say and that can be said to this whole question, “what is a Christian.” What I want to focus on is, the answer. Being a Christian is your Identity.
When I ask you what is a Christian, you begin to understand the answer. You start to describe the answer. The characteristics of Christ is the definition of a Christian.
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV says;
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
The Whole Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-20 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
The Amor of God is the characteristics of Christ. If you are in Christ and Christ is in you, then when someone describes you to someone else, they will give them the characteristics of Christ. When they see you they will see Christ. In like manner (similar) to when they asked Christ, show us the father. He said, if you have seen me you have seen the father. (I am not saying we are the same as Christ divinity)
When Christ was squeezed, pressured, attacked what came out of him?
This is not rebuke. This is a call to righteousness! How can you stand up against evil if what you do is evil.
Matthew 6:22-24
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Call to Righteousness
What is a Christian? By now you understand what a Christian is. That is, one who reflects Christ. The world is not looking good these days. If I can be Frank, (Hi Frank) it is because those who are in Christ do not look like him. We have been given the power and we just give it to everyone else in the spirit realm. This is because we are serving more than one master. I get that it may seem hard, but it isn’t. What we are getting out of the world is simply what we have been feeding the world. We have indulged our time in what doesn’t matter. Giving our money (time) our thoughts (time), our actions (time) and our authority over to those who do not have our best interests in mind.
The call to righteousness is in Christ. To live as a Christian. One who is in Christ and watch the captives be set free. Can you imagine Christ walking past someone in bondage and saying, maybe next time? That is what we are doing by not living lives worthy to be called Christians.
This is not condemnation, but conviction that, faith without works is dead. I am not talking about being saved by works. But, if you walk past someone dying on the streets and ignore them or even say maybe next time, then, what nature are you of?
We all have been there so not throwing stones. But, the world reflects what it does because we have allowed it to reflect it. The world is a mirror of the spirit. The world looks like it does because those who are called by his name have stood by and watched it happen, saying, the Lord will fix it. He has, we are in him and he in us. So go and do the works of the Lord. Go and set the captive free.
Lord, I surrender my will for your will for you know best. You lead to life and what I want leads to death or at the very least is not fruitful. Lord, in you is eternal life. Lord use us to bring the light to the world like never before. Let our hunger not be filled and let us hunger after your nature, after your characteristics, after the very image of God. Lord, we love you. Show us how to love everyone as you love them. See them as sons and daughters of heaven. Who reign with you, in you and through you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!!
God bless all until next time. Go, Kill, Eat!!! (You’ll understand when you come!) See you Sunday’s @10:30 A.M. Grab a bulletin and see what is going on through the week ahead. Love Pastor
